Petition Letter
Greetings,
I just signed the following petition addressed to: United Nations.
------------------------------------------
Honourable Ban Ki Moon
Secretary General
United Nations, New York
Subject: Appeal letter on Tibet.
Your Excellency,
Keeping grave and worsening situation in Tibet, the Tibetan Parliament-in-exile organised six month long worldwide “Flame of Truth” Relay from July 6, 2012 to bring UN member states and your Excellency’s attention to the issue of Tibet.
Over the last sixty years since the Communist China’s brutal occupation of Tibet, Beijing has never changed its hard-line policies on Tibet. This has resulted in China exploiting not only Tibet’s rich natural resources but also to kill, torture, imprisons and harass the Tibetan people continuously violating Universal Declarations of Human Rights and other UN treaties.
Since 2008 the Chinese security forces have particularly cracked down hard on Tibetans leading to numerous deaths and countless tortures. The situation is getting worse each day. Consequently, the Tibetan people have been setting themselves on fire one after another to demand a peaceful resolution of the Tibetan issue, return of His Holiness the Dalai Lama to Tibet and to let the UN and the international community know about the Tibetan people’s aspirations and the sorrows hidden deep within their hearts. Tibet today is like hell on earth.
We, the undersigned stand in solidarity with the courageous and selfless acts of brave Tibetan martyrs inside Tibet and strongly urge your Excellency to look into the following demands immediately and resolve the issue of Tibet:
1. The United Nations must discuss the issue of Tibet based on the resolutions that it has passed in 1959, 1961 and 1965, and continuously make efforts to fulfil the substance of these resolutions
2. An independent international fact-finding delegations must immediately be sent to investigate the ongoing crisis in Tibet
3. The United Nations must take special responsibility to ensure that the basic aspirations of the Tibetans inside Tibet are fulfilled
These hundreds of thousands of signatures are collected from different countries across the world through which the Flame of Truth travelled. The historic relay concludes today on 10 December with simultaneous submission of appeal letters and signatures to your esteemed office, UN Human Rights Council in Geneva and UN Information centre in New Delhi.
With Regards
Yours Sincerely,

Tibetan Parliament (in Exile)---Dharamsala is organising a worldwide “Flame of Truth” relay from July 6, 2012 onwards. This relay will be simultaneously launched on July 6 from Leh, Ladakh (J & K), Shillong (Meghalaya) & Kochi (Kerala). This worldwide campaign will conclude on December 10 coinciding with UN human rights day.
In 2008, China pledged to make improvements in human rights and on that promise: Communist China, the most arbitrary, most brutal, most murderous, human rights abusing regime in modern history, was allowed to host the 2008 Olympics.
The world took the Communist Chinese Party leaders on trust. We were deceived. The situation is grave and has continued to worsen. The current wave of atrocities and human rights violations perpetrated by China are on a scale so large that it should shock the very conscience of all mankind.
The FLAME OF TRUTH RELAY is a global event, beginning on July 6, 2012, the 77th birthday of HH the Dalai Lama, in northern India, will travel from there across hundreds of cities around the world. The relay will end on December 10, 2012, World Wide Human Rights Day.
Hundreds of thousands of signatures and appeal letters will be collected along the flame route and will be submitted to the UN Headquarters in New York City, the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva, and the UN information office in New Dehli.
PETITION:
We the undersigned add our voice to the Flame of Truth Relay being organized by the Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile (TPiE) demanding the United Nations intervene immediately on behalf of Tibet, and hold China to the same standard of human rights decency as any other country without blurring the measure of human rights protection expected of China on account of its economic, financial and trade power.
