Hi Rafa,

If you are based in the UK, please send the email template below to your MP asking them to join an upcoming meeting of the West Papua All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG).

A new report has revealed the extent of British complicity in Indonesia’s occupation of West Papua. We need as many MPs as possible to read this report, particularly now, with Indonesia destroying the West Papuan rainforest at an unprecedented rate.

Simply copy and paste the email template enclosed below, inputting your name and the name of your MP where indicated. You can find your MP’s name and email address by typing your postcode here

Thank you for reading this.

RE: APPG on West Papua – 9th September 2025

As your local constituent, I am writing to ask you to attend a West Papua APPG meeting launching an important new report about West Papua, taking place from 11am–12pm on Wednesday 9th September in Room N, Portcullis House.

The report, titled “Bringing it All Back Home: the role of British companies in the destruction of West Papua”, reveals the extent of the UK’s decades-long complicity in Indonesia’s genocidal occupation of West Papua. Alarmingly, UK military training and arms sales are likely being used on West Papuan civilians, while British companies are deeply involved in the destruction of West Papua’s rainforest. Over 100,000 West Papuan civilians are also currently displaced as a result of ongoing Indonesian military operations.

The meeting will be addressed by:

  • Alex Sobel: MP and Chair of International Parliamentarians for West Papua
  • Jennifer Robinson: Barrister, Doughty Street Chambers and co-founder of International Lawyers for West Papua
  • Benny Wenda: President of the United Liberation Movement for West Papua
  • David Whyte: Director of the Centre for Climate Crime and Climate Justice

As your constituent, I am deeply concerned by the fact that Indonesia is currently embarking on the largest deforestation project ever launched in West Papua – three million hectares of rice and sugarcane plantations. This project alone will release 782 million additional tons of CO2, more than double Indonesia’s existing emissions. The climate consequences of this are terrifying and I urge you to take action.

I trust you to represent my concerns on this matter and invite you to join the APPG meeting. Please RSVP to office@IPWP.org

I look forward to receiving your reply.

Yours sincerely,
